NOTEBOOK ON CITIES AND CLOTHES is a fascinating documentary by Wim Wenders that explores the work of noted Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto. The filmmaker follows Yamamoto from Tokyo to France as the designer arranges his Paris showing. Through a dialogue between the director and his subject, the film offers an original take on the meaning of fashion and style in the art world as well as in contemporary life.

慾望之翼的片尾獻詞，他將該片獻給三個電影天使─塔可夫斯基、楚浮與小津安二郎，在尋找小津的片頭，溫德斯形同自首的表白：「如果在我們這個世紀仍然有什麼神聖的事物存在...或者在電影中有什麼神聖的寶藏，對我來說那會是指日本導演小津安二郎的作品」
在此溫德斯化身為旅人，尋找小津電影當中的東京的殘跡，並且讓小津電影當中的標記之一的笠智眾帶領我們來到小津的墓前，揭露小津安二郎作品當中最深邃的機密。 (哲學系 江鈺棋)



Wim Wenders went to Japan searching for the spirit of his favorite filmmaker, the Japanese master Yasujiro Ozu who died in 1963. Through his travels Wenders uncovers very interesting oddities. He says, "If in our century something sacred still existed… if there were something like a sacred treasure of the cinema, then for me that would have to be the work of the Japanese director, Yasujiro Ozu".

電影錄音師菲利普，接獲導演老友一張求救的明信片，帶著器材和家當，便風塵僕僕的奔赴至葡萄牙里斯本。抵達好友的大房子之後，卻找不到他的蹤跡。只留下些許線索，玩笑似的痕跡。菲利普在里斯本的大街小巷裡，收集著被人們忽略的聲音。走訪各處巷弄、船塢、教堂，結識了一群樂團朋友(在葡萄牙有國寶級地位的聖母合唱團Madredeus)，還愛上了擁有天籟般嗓音的女歌手。全片散佈迷人的聲音旋律、喃喃自語的影像哲思、里斯本湛藍晴空的誘人景色。溫德斯說「里斯本故事」是自己有史以來最具「娛樂性」的作品，邊拍邊寫的電影即興創作，是了解溫德斯電影的最佳入門選擇。看似隨性簡單，卻處處展現溫德斯對電影的熱愛。引領觀者去探索電影的原始魅力，思考未來，傳達了電影工作者對工作無止盡的熱情。 (中文系 晴安)

When he receives a cryptic call from his filmmaker friend to come to Lisbon to help with a project, a sound engineer sets off for the Portuguese capital. Upon arrival, the confused sound man finds only an unfinished film and the splendors of the city. A commentary on the contemporary state of filmmaking from iconoclast Wenders.

對電影的熱愛會有多熾烈？八零年代之後的安東 尼奧尼經中風後半身癱瘓，已失去了言語的能力，堅持「拍電影就是生命」的安東尼奧尼在八十三歲高齡時在溫德斯的協助下，從安東尼奧尼所寫的《台伯河畔的保 齡球道：一個導演的故事》中抽出了四段故事，完成了這部電影。影片敘述一名導演飛往世界各地尋找電影題材所得見的四個故事，四個故事卻不是飄浮在雲端的故 事，而是安東尼奧尼一貫追問的人的狀態，對人生的所有感悟都聚斂為看似簡單的相逢際遇，在煙蘊中藏著詩一般的哲思。而執行導演溫德斯後來將他與安東尼奧尼 合作的事情寫成《和安東尼奧尼在一起的時光》一書。 (哲學系 江鈺棋)

Antonioni's first film since suffering a stroke in 1985 is based on stories from his book THAT BOWLING ALLEY IN THE TIBER and was realized with help from Wenders. Taking place in Ferrara, Portofino, Aix en Provence and Paris, each story, which always has a woman as the crux of the story, invites you to an inner journey. As Antonioni says, "towards the true image of that absolute and mysterious reality that nobody will ever see."

This unusual road movie, tells the tale of Travis, a man lost in his own private hell. Presumed dead for four years, he reappears from the desert on the Mexico border, world-weary and an amnesiac. He traces his brother Walt who is bringing up Hunter, his seven-year-old son, his ex-wife Jane having abandoned him at Walt's door several years before. As virtual strangers, Hunter and Travis begin to build a wary friendship and conspire to find Jane and bring her back to be a real family. Paris, Texas is probably Wim Wenders' most well known, critically acclaimed, and successful movie, winning a number of international prizes including the Cannes Palme D'Or for Best Film in 1984.

Kings of the Road, focuses on the relationship that develops between two men - movie projector repairman Bruno and suicidal Robert - as they travel in a truck on the dusty roads along the border between East and West Germany. By the end of their journey, they derive comfort from the fact that "in the course of time" (the film's German title) their lives have taken on some shape and some significance."KINGS OF THE ROAD is a quiet, almost lyrical film that disdains psychological motivation, suspense and dramatic tension. In that sense, it reflects Wenders's admiration for the films of Yasujiro Ozu".

Wilhelm Meister為了逃離充滿壓抑的家鄉，搭上火車向遼闊的遠方尋求靈感。但在旅途中，怪異的事情卻接踵而來。在看似茫然的旅途中，其實是藉以探討現代人斷 裂的溝通關係，以及美國文化對戰後西德新一代的影響，同時也呈現出納粹德國的歷史對新一代造成的困擾。而最後在他歷經死亡的危險後，終於擺脫了上一代的牽絆，爬上了境內最高的山峰。本部片是「公路電影三部曲」的第二部，劇情改編自歌德的小說《威廉麥斯特的學習時代》。

The story follows the wanderings of an aspiring young writer, Wilhelm Meister (Rüdiger Vogler), who begins his journey by leaving his oppressive mother and hometown, traveling about West Germany gathering an odd cast of friends, and winds up alone in Zugspitze. His thoughts are occasionally presented in voice-over. The movie is a rough adaption of Goethe's Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship.

An unusual friendship blossoms between a German journalist on the road in the United States and a precocious nine-year-old girl abandoned by her mother. Inventive and witty, Wenders reflects on the influences of American pop culture on postwar Europe. Accepted to be one of Wenders' most poignant films and often compared to Chaplin's The Kid, Alice in the Cities was the first of Wim Wenders' films to be shot in part in the United States and subsequently won the 1974 German Critics Prize.

故事延續著《慾望之翼》，另一位天使卡西爾也想變成凡人，但與達米爾不同的是，他的動機並非出自於愛，而是為了幫助人類。從卡西爾冷眼旁觀，看過了太多人類所遭遇的問題，便自覺知道問題所在。變成凡人的他，在天使的看護下，幫助黑幫分子通尼從犯罪生涯裏擺脫出來，並且和失散的姐姐重新團聚，直到傳來了上帝要召回所有流散在人間的天使的消息。

In this sequel to "Wings of Desire," the angel Cassiel, who watches over humanity with pity, sympathy and love, gives up his wings in order to understand how humans feel and think. As he wanders through the troubled city of Berlin, experiencing the new sensations of his earthly body, Cassiel becomes involved in a complex series of events having to do with former Nazis, smuggled weapons and long-lost relatives.

The sky over Wenders's war-scarred Berlin is full of gentle angels wearing trench coats who listen to the tortured thoughts of mortals and try to comfort them. One wishes to become mortal after falling in love with a beautiful trapeze artist. Peter Falk, as himself, assists in the transformation by explaining the simple joys of a human experience, such as the sublime combination of coffee and cigarettes. Full of philosophical reflections on human life, Wings of Desire is one of the best film he've ever made.
